ACT Companion Dog Club
Obedience Trials
|
| class times | class structure | official trials | sub-committees |
The Club encourages members to participate in official Obedience Trials; once you have successfully completed our Transition class you are ready to start competitive training and trialling.
If you wish to compete in an official Australian National Kennel Council (ANKC) trial you will have to join the ACT Canine Association (ACTCA) and register your dog - if you live in NSW then you will have to join the Royal NSW Canine Council (Dogs NSW) instead. Forms to join the ACTCA are available from the CDC office ... you also need official entry forms for every trial you wish to enter and these are available from the CDC shop. CDC has also produced a guide to trialling which is given to members of the Novice class ... ask at the office to obtain a copy.
The titles to be gained in Obedience are: Community Companion Dog (CCD), Companion Dog (CD), Companion Dog Excellent (CDX), Utility Dog (UD), Utility Dog Excellent (UDX) and Obedience Champion (OCH). Getting a title also means that your dog officially gets the letters appended to the end of their name and this qualification is recognised Australia wide.
You will need patience and perseverance to succeed in all trials - not just
Obedience trials. The satisfaction of having a highly trained, companionable
dog and the many friends you will make along the way are ample reward for
the time and effort involved.
