ACT Companion Dog Club
Obedience Class Times
Each year, 5 courses of obedience classes are run, comprising 3 parallel streams (on Wednesday morning, Thursday evening and Sunday morning) over 8 weeks. Once a member has paid the annual fee and annual activity fee for their dog, they may attend all 5 courses, one at a time, at no additional charge. That makes for a very cost effective training experience ! At the end of each course, CDC hold a Competition or Comp day in which handlers in levels Intermediate and above, compete with other handlers at the same level from all the different classes in that level. Each handler who registers on Comp day is assigned a ring number and together with about 8 other handlers, will compete for Blue, Red or Yellow pride of place ribbons. It's a low key affair, nothing for handlers to be nervous about; but it gives them the opportunity to see how they and their furry friend compare with others at the same learning stage. There is usually a barbeque offered and often there may be stalls with goodies for members and their dogs.
