Introduction
CDC teaches all levels of obedience whether you just want a well behaved pet or would like to trial competitively. All classes are taught using motivational techniques - see our training principles page. Our basic classes start with Beginners and then progress to Intermediate and Advanced. Successfully completing our Advanced class entitles your dog to a certificate for obedience trained dogs that is recognised by the ACT Government and significantly reduces registration costs.
Dogs then proceed to our Transition level that starts progressing the training and challenging the handler and the dog. It is after this class that the handler can make a choice to pursue competitive Obedience training (Novice, Graduate, Open and Utility) or to proceed down our Companion stream (Primary and Secondary). Both choices allow you to further your dog's training and are enjoyable for both dog and handler … and you can swap between them if so desired.

The Club holds 4 official Obedience Trials each year in April, June, August and November - view the Official Trials page to find out how to enter. These Trials are often held on the same weekend as an official Obedience Trial run by another ACT club. All official Trials are advertised in the Club's magazine, the ACTCA Journal, and on this website. Official trials are run under rules set by the Australian National Kennel Control (ANKC). Club members should go to the office and get a copy of the 'Guide to Trialling' booklet which gives a great deal of information about official Obedience Trials. We encourage members to participate in official Trials ... you may have the smartest dog in the neighbourhood, impressively intelligent, but how do you prove it? You compete in official Trials and gain Obedience titles for your dog which are recognised Australia wide! It can be quite rewarding and fun for both you and your dog.
