Agility Trials
The Club encourages members to participate in official Agility Trails - once you have successfully completed our basic classes you are ready to start training and competing in Agility trials.
There are a number of organisations that conduct Agility trials around Australia ... in the ACT the two main ones are the Australian National Kennel Council (ANKC) and the National Australian Dog Agility Club (NADAC) trials. If you wish to compete in an official ANKC trial you will have to join the ACT Canine Association (ACTCA) and register your dog - if you live in NSW then you will have to join the Royal NSW Canine Council (Dogs NSW) instead. Forms to join the ACTCA are available from the CDC office ... you also need official entry forms for every trial you wish to enter and these are available from the CDC shop.
There are two formats for ANKC Trials - Agility and Jumping (games are also included in some trials). The titles to be gained in Agility are: Agility Dog (AD), Agility Dog Excellent (ADX), Agility Dog Masters (ADM) and Agility Dog Open (ADO); and similar titles for Jumping: Jumping Dog (JD), Jumping Dog Excellent (JDX), Jumping Dog Masters (JDM) and Jumping Dog Open (JDO).
Getting a title also means that your dog officially gets the letters appended to the end of their name and this qualification is recognised Australia wide.
You will need patience and perseverance to succeed in all trials - not just
Agility trials. The satisfaction of having a highly trained, companionable
dog and the many friends you will make along the way are ample reward for
the time and effort involved.
ANKC Agility Rules 2006
In 2006 the ANKC introduced new rules for Agility Trialing. They introduced two new titles (JDO and ADO) and introduced a new Open Class.
