ACT Companion Dog Club

how to enrol introduction membership & fees club forms club grounds club rules committees

In order to attend any classes you will need to join the ACT Companion Dog Club ... but joining is very easy. All you have to do is contact the Club and register your interest. Unfortunately we currently don't have any way of enrolling online, so don't send an email asking to be enrolled ... it won't happen. Please phone the Club (on 6295 7764) or drop by during office or training hours (see our contacts page for details).

First, there are a few things you will need to know:

  • Your dog must be fully immunised against distemper, canine hepatitis, and parvovirus (the Club will not accept homoepathic vaccinations as sufficient cover) - proof of vaccination is required or a letter from a Vet stating that your dogs immunisation is adequate. This means your dog will have to be at least 12 weeks of age before it can start classes.
  • We have waiting lists ... especially for puppy classes and Agility & Flyball intakes. We always get more interest than we have places available ... so please get your name down as soon as possible - drop by or call the Club early to avoid disappointment (again ... don't send an email).
  • There are 5 terms of Obedience classes a year and each term goes for 8 weeks (see the Club calendar for term starting dates). Classes are offered on Wednesday & Sunday mornings and Thursday nights (see our page on class times for details). At the end of each term there is a competition day for our senior classes (see the Club calendar for dates) that is used to gauge whether a handler/dog team is ready to progress to the next level of training.
  • Agility and Flyball classes vary throughout the year ... check out the current Agility and Flyball class times. These classes have entrance requirements that involve demonstrating a basic level of control with your dog off lead (having done the Advanced level Obedience training is usually good enough).
