In order to attend any classes you will need to join the ACT Companion
Dog Club ... but joining is very easy. All you have to do is download the New Member Application pack, complete it and submit it, with your direct credit advice or your payment and a copy of your dog's vaccination certificate to the club.
You can bring your application to the club in person during office hours or Obedience training hours or, send it by email or by letter. Please refer our contacts page for address details.
If you have any questions, either email us or phone the club on 6295 7764 during office hours (10am - 1pm Monday to Friday).
First, there are a few things you will need to know:
- Your dog must be fully immunised against distemper, canine hepatitis,
and parvovirus (the Club will not accept homoepathic vaccinations as
sufficient cover). Proof of vaccination is required or a letter from
a Vet stating that your dogs immunisation is adequate and current. This means your
dog will have to be at least 12 weeks old before it can start classes.
- We have waiting lists - especially for puppy classes, Agility & Flyball
intakes. We always get more interest than we have places available, so please apply in person, by phone, by letter or by email as soon as possible. Contact
the Club early to avoid disappointment.
- There are five x 8 week Obedience courses per year; please refer to the Club calendar for term starting dates. Obedience classes
are offered on Wednesday and Sunday mornings and Thursday nights
(see our training times for details).
- At the end of each term
there is a competition day for our more senior classes, which is used to gauge whether a handler/dog team is ready
to progress to the next level of training (see the Club calendar for competition day dates).
- Agility and Flyball classes vary throughout the year - check out
the current Agility and Flyball class times. These classes have entry
requirements that involve demonstrating a confident level of control with
your dog off lead. (Completion of obedience training up to and including Advanced level is not mandatory, but is recommended.
- Your first Obedience Training class will be an information session where we will give you an overview and demonstration of our training methods and aids. PLEASE DO NOT BRING YOUR DOG TO YOUR FIRST OBEDIENCE TRAINING CLASS because it will take place in the clubhouse.
